Boko Haram Terrorists Kill, Destroy in New Attack on Borno’s Shikarkir Village

Boko Haram attacked Shikarkir, burning homes and a church.

Terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram launched a fresh attack on the Shikarkir community in Borno State on Monday, January 13, 2025, just a day after a similar assault on a neighboring village, Bazir.

In the attack, they set ablaze the Church of Brethren (E.Y.N) and numerous residential houses, displacing many villagers.

The terrorists, who struck around 2:00 pm, also looted livestock, foodstuffs, and other valuables from the community before forcing villagers to flee.

Mallam Daniel Shikarkir, a local resident, told reporters that his aged parents, 82 and 79, narrowly escaped unharmed but lost their home to the fire.

This latest violence is part of a troubling wave of attacks on the Chibok local government area, where the Boko Haram insurgents continue to wreak havoc.

Just a week earlier, on January 2, 2025, terrorists attacked Njilang village in the same area, forcing residents to seek refuge in safer regions.

The violence has sparked widespread concern, with locals raising alarms over the security situation.

Despite the presence of over 1,000 army personnel and 500 local vigilantes stationed in the area, these attacks have continued with alarming frequency, leaving communities in fear and uncertainty.

Local activist Paul Mauntah Yaga from Chibok expressed his frustration over the ongoing violence, calling on national and state leaders to take immediate action.

Yaga highlighted the need for increased security measures, including the deployment of more military personnel and vigilantes to safeguard vulnerable communities.

“Chibok residents no longer feel safe,” he wrote on social media.

“It is the responsibility of our leaders to ensure our protection. We have a right to live in peace, and we urge our leaders to take immediate action to guarantee this right.”
