Maj. Gen. Emeka Onumajuru, Chief of Defence Operations, announced that 125,517 terrorists and their families have surrendered to troops.

He also revealed that over 60,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been relocated with the support of the Borno State Government, which has helped to alleviate congestion in some IDP camps.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Onumajuru stated, “We have successfully relocated over 60,000 IDPs in collaboration with the Borno State Government, reducing overcrowding in IDP camps. Additionally, approximately 125,517 terrorists and their families have surrendered, and those involved in war-related activities have been moved to Operation Safe Corridor Gombe as part of our non-kinetic operations.”

He highlighted that operations in the North East have been largely successful, citing the reopening of major roads and markets as evidence of progress.

“Troops in the northwest have performed well, leading to increased economic activities and a productive farming season. We are also focused on ensuring a successful harvest.”

Onumajuru noted that while there are minor incidents in the North Central region, overall security remains stable. He commented, “The North Central region is generally stable, except for challenges in areas like Shiroro in Niger State.

We are addressing these issues as part of our broader strategy for the northwest. Militia activities in Benue and Nasarawa states have been reduced, and kidnapping rates have also declined.”

In the South South, Onumajuru reported significant successes against oil thieves.

“Our operations have focused on four key pillars: offensive operations to clear major infractions along key pipelines, particularly the Trans-Niger pipeline; deterrent operations to prevent access to pipeline routes; and other targeted actions to curb oil theft and militancy.”

He also assured that the security situation in the Southeast is stable, with reduced enforcement of sit-at-home orders by IPOB. “In the Southeast, we have neutralized a significant number of IPOB and ESN members. Their ability to enforce sit-at-home orders has diminished, improving socio-economic activities in the region.”

Onumajuru concluded that Plateau State’s situation has stabilized due to effective operations and that the Southwest continues to be peaceful.
