EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident, caught on video, sparked outrage, prompting the priest to issue an apology.
Reacting via Instagram, Bovi condemned the unchecked abuse in Nigeria and expressed frustration with the priest’s apology, where the incident was described as a “normal correction” and “minor correction.”
EDITOR’S PICKS:
The comedian questioned the priest’s self-control in private settings and called on law enforcement to take action against him.
Bovi wrote, “I’ve tried to ignore this video, but after seeing the apology this morning, I’m more upset. The priest’s actions were labeled a ‘normal’ and ‘minor correction,’ but it was far from that.
“He struck a defenseless child and humiliated him over something trivial. If this is what happens in public, imagine what might happen in private.
“Striking a child’s head for no reason is a violent, criminal act. @nigerianpolice, why hasn’t this man been called in? We need to protect children and stop abuse before it escalates.
“In a society where a virgin priest, who preaches the teachings of Jesus, uses physical violence to express his emotions, we are heading towards disaster. We may already be in hell.”
