BREAKING: 27 Rivers Lawmakers Can Meet Anywhere Despite Assembly Demolition – APC
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, on Thursday, said the embattled 27 members of the House of Assembly can carry out their duties anywhere out the demolished complex.
In a visit to the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja, the state caretaker committee emphasized that, supported by the presence of the mace, the majority of legislators possess the authority to convene and deliberate in any location.

This declaration arrives in the wake of the lawmakers’ allegiance shift from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, aligning themselves with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. The opposing faction, loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declared their seats vacant, prompting the PDP’s call for fresh elections to fill the positions.
Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Rivers APC committee, underscored the legitimacy of the lawmakers’ actions, affirming that defection is not an anomaly in Nigerian politics. He condemned the demolition of the assembly quarters, alleging the governor’s involvement and signaling the party’s commitment to challenging any perceived illegalities.
Regarding speculations on plans to impeach Governor Fubara before the demolition, Okocha refrained from explicit commentary, emphasizing instead the democratic nature of impeachment and citing constitutional provisions allowing party defections.
While acknowledging past attempts to collaborate with Governor Wike, Okocha lamented Fubara’s alleged neglect of governance, painting a picture of a political landscape rife with tensions and power struggles.
