The British Government through its High Commission says it is “in the process of seeking clarification” from Nigerian Government regarding the arrest of the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

You would recall that Kanu, who jumped bail in 2017 and fled the country, was arrested on Sunday and extradited to Nigeria to face trial for alleged treason.

The attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, said on Tuesday that the IPOB leader was “intercepted through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and Security Services.”
Hurlock said the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office “stands ready to provide consular assistance”.
Kanu is also a British citizen.
