Journalists hoping to cover the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital, were thrown into confusion on Tuesday as they were restricted from covering the rescheduled judgement filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Eyitayo Jegede, challenging the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the October 20 governorship poll.
The Tribunal is holding today virtually via zoom due to the ongoing strike action by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
EKO HOT BLOG, however, gathered that the Tribunal’s Secretary, Mr Bako, refused to talk to newsmen before the reading of the judgment at 10:00am as the zoom passcode was changed.
The action, therefore, restricted journalists from covering the tribunal’s proceedings.
Some of the journalists, who could not hold their frustration, expressed disappointment over the ugly development.
The NUJ Secretary in Ondo State, Leke Adegbite, in an interview, said the Tribunal’s Secretary has not been picking his calls since yesterday, adding that he only picked when a protest report was made.
Adegbite condemned the shut out of journalists from the court’s virtual judgment.
