EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sowore’s arrest is believed to be linked to the 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place nationwide in August. The demonstrations were led by the Take-It-Back Movement, along with other civil society organizations, with Sowore playing a central role as the convener.
Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protest have announced plans for another demonstration, set for October 1.

In a post on his X account, Sowore revealed that he was detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and his passport was confiscated.
“I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA at the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they informed me they had orders to detain me,” he wrote.
Sowore added, “This is not unexpected, as I have always known it is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober revolt.”
He further urged citizens to resist tyranny, stating, “If this turns into another prolonged detention, I call on our people to stand against oppression by all means necessary, through planned direct actions beginning on October 1st and beyond.”
