BREAKING: Mass Exodus in Edo as LG Chairman, 8 Councillors Defect to APC

  • Ovia South West LG Chairman and 8 councillors defect to the APC.
  • Owan West LG Chairman and 5 councillors also join the APC.
  • Defections highlight political shift in Edo in support of Governor Okpebholo’s development agenda.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified its efforts to dominate all 18 local government areas in Edo State, witnessing high-profile defections from the opposition.

In Ovia South West Local Government Area, the chairman, Hon. Edosa Enowoghomenma, along with eight elected councillors, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Nosakhare Edobor, officially joined the APC. Similarly, the chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, Hon. Dickson Ahonsi, and five councillors also defected to the APC amid ongoing tensions between local councils and Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Hon. Ahonsi attributed his decision to the developmental strides of Governor Okpebholo, highlighting key appointments and infrastructural projects that signal progress in the state. “His activities since assuming office have been impressive. The forthcoming list of commissioners and his ongoing projects show that Edo is in safe hands,” Ahonsi said.

Receiving the defectors, the APC State Secretary, Engr. Lawrence Okah, welcomed them warmly, assuring them of equal treatment within the party. “The doors of the APC are open to more defectors. Use the broom to mobilize others to join us,” Okah stated.

The defectors from Ovia South West were received by the local party chairman, Emmanuel Ogbomo, who reassured them of support and collaboration. “In the APC, everyone is treated equally. You will not regret your decision to join us,” Ogbomo said.

Hon. Enowoghomenma expressed his commitment to working harmoniously with the APC-led state government to foster development. “We have decided to align with the APC to support Governor Monday Okpebholo and our son, the deputy governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, in their mission to develop Edo State,” he said.
