Retired Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has been appointed as the military administrator of Rivers State following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency EKO HOT BLOG reports.

Born on September 27, 1960, Ibas hails from Nko in Cross River State. He served as Nigeria’s 22nd Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021, completing a distinguished military career that spanned over four decades (1979–2021).

Ibas began his education at Nko Primary School and later attended Big Qua Primary School, Calabar. He proceeded to Hope Waddell Training Institute (1972–1976) and the School of Basic Studies, Ogoja, before joining the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1979. Rising through the ranks, he held various leadership roles in the Navy.

Throughout his service, he attended prestigious military courses, including the Amphibious Warfare School of the U.S. Marine Corps University in Virginia (1992) and the National Defence College in Islamabad, Pakistan. He also earned a master’s degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

Recognized for his service, Ibas received multiple awards, including the ECOMOG Medal, Forces Service Star, and the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
