EKO HOT BLOG reports that Yari, who was recently appointed Director General of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, made the projection after returning from an overseas trip at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Reacting to the comment, the PDP said Yari should focus on delivering the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu instead of making projections about elections that are still years away.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard on Monday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said Yari appeared to have been carried away by his new appointment.
“I think the Senator is simply being overzealous with the appointment given to him by Mr President as Director-General,” Mohammed said.
He argued that Yari should first concentrate on the responsibilities attached to his new position and demonstrate his ability to deliver the APC’s 2027 campaign objectives.
“At the moment, he should focus more on how he can deliver on the mandate given to him before talking about 2031. For now, he should concentrate on that rather than making statements that are not even right,” he added.
Yari had earlier said the APC would remain in power beyond the 2027 general election, projecting that the party would retain the presidency after 2031.
His comments have drawn a response from the opposition PDP, which rejected any suggestion that opposition parties had conceded either the 2027 presidential election or the presidency beyond 2031 to the ruling party.
Mohammed said the opposition remained focused on the forthcoming elections and had not surrendered its political ambitions to the APC.
“As to whether the opposition has already conceded 2027 to Mr President or is even conceding power to the APC beyond 2031, no, no, no, not at all,” he said.
“That is a topic for discussion another day. For now, we are mainly concentrating on the forthcoming elections.”
The PDP spokesman further advised Yari not to become overwhelmed by his appointment as the APC campaign council’s Director General.
“He should not be overwhelmed by this singular honour given to him by the President. He should relax, concentrate and focus on the mandate given to him by Mr President,” Mohammed said.

Yari’s appointment places him at the centre of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, while the PDP and other opposition parties are also positioning themselves ahead of the poll.
For the PDP, however, the immediate focus remains on the 2027 contest rather than predictions about who will control the presidency beyond 2031.
