British troops deployed to support Poland on Belarus border

EU leaders have dubbed Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko’s pushing of thousands of migrants to the country’s border with Poland a “hybrid war.”
EKO HOT BLOG reports that as hundreds of migrants seek to cross the border into the EU, Britain is teaming forces with Poland by sending ten British troops to protect the Belarus border.
The operation, which was agreed upon with the Polish government, would offer “engineer assistance” rather than border patrol, according to the UK Ministry of Defence. The soldiers, who have been on the ground since Thursday, will likely repair or reinforce barriers.

Thousands of soldiers, military equipment, and riot police have already been dispatched to Poland to strengthen the border with razor wire.

NATO has called on Belarus to stop what it terms a politically-motivated “instrumentalization of irregular migration,” adding: “These callous actions endanger the lives of vulnerable people.”
