Cabinet Reshuffle: At Last, Tinubu Replaces Betta Edu in Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs
President Bola Tinubu has replaced Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, with Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda.
The change comes after Edu was suspended in January following the discovery of an unauthorized transfer of N585.2 million into the private bank account of a civil servant responsible for managing grants for vulnerable Nigerians.
President Tinubu also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the ministry’s financial transactions.
The probe has since expanded to cover the entire framework of Nigeria’s social investment programs.
Betta Edu, who has denied any wrongdoing, stated through her office that she had approved the transfer of the funds into a personal account for the purpose of implementing grants for vulnerable groups.
However, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation clarified that such funds should have been disbursed directly from government accounts to the intended beneficiaries.
