The Cambodian government has formally requested that Thailand return 20 of its soldiers who were taken into custody by Thai forces several hours after a ceasefire agreement.’
Eko Hot Blog reports that Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that diplomatic efforts are currently underway to secure the release of the captured soldiers.

According to multiple reports, the agreement was reached to halt ongoing cross-border clashes between the two Southeast Asian nations over disputed territory.
However, Thai authorities have insisted that the detainees will need to undergo legal proceedings before they can be repatriated.

“We are committed to pursuing negotiations with the Thai side to ensure the safe and prompt return of our soldiers,” Socheata stated during a press briefing.
“We urge Thailand to expedite the release of our 20 military personnel back to Cambodia as soon as possible.”
According to report made available by Aljazeera, the group of Cambodian troops was apprehended on Tuesday morning, nearly eight hours after the ceasefire took effect, with Thai authorities alleging that they had crossed into Thai-controlled territory.
Major-General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, mentioned that the commander of Thailand’s Second Army Region has assured that the Cambodian detainees – reportedly numbering 18 will be treated in accordance with international humanitarian law.
“The soldiers will be returned promptly once the necessary legal procedures have been completed,” the Thai army spokesperson was quoted as saying by local media.
