EKO HOT BLOG reports that the French capital was rocked by unrest that left two people dead, hundreds arrested, and widespread damage across the city.
According to French authorities, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed, while a 20-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle carrying celebrating fans. Both deaths occurred during the post-match celebrations that followed PSG’s 2-0 win, sealed by goals from Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue.
As celebrations spilled onto the streets, especially around the Champs-Élysées, tensions rose sharply. Crowds gathered near the Place de l’Étoile were met with water cannon deployment as early as halftime to control fans attempting to breach police barricades.
By Sunday morning, the Interior Ministry confirmed that 426 arrests were made nationwide, with 417 in Paris alone.
Of those detained, 216 individuals remained in custody. Authorities also reported injuries to 13 police officers and 192 civilians during the unrest.
The chaos escalated through the night as fireworks exploded in the streets, objects were hurled at law enforcement, and numerous stores were vandalised or looted. Riot police responded with tear gas and baton charges in an attempt to control the crowd.
Emergency responders dealt with 148 separate fire incidents across the city, with 46 vehicles reported torched.
While security forces managed to restore order in parts of the city, including the Place de l’Étoile, sporadic violence continued into the early hours in other neighbourhoods.
The French government has condemned the violence and called for a thorough investigation into the deaths, injuries, and damages.

Officials say additional measures may be implemented to ensure public safety during future large-scale celebrations.
