The Nigerian House of Representatives descended into chaos on Wednesday as members prepared to debate President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The Senate, meanwhile, postponed its own debate on the matter.

President Tinubu declared the emergency rule on Tuesday, citing a prolonged political crisis, constitutional breaches, and alarming security reports of pipeline vandalism.

He suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the state assembly for six months.
