The incident occurred in the second half of Monday night’s Round of 16 clash at the tournament, a match Nigeria dominated to secure a place in the quarter finals.
With the Super Eagles already leading by three goals, television cameras captured a heated exchange between Osimhen and Lookman, with both players visibly upset as words were exchanged on the pitch.
Shortly after the confrontation, Osimhen gestured to the technical bench requesting a substitution. Chelle responded by replacing the Galatasaray striker with Paul Onuachu.
The situation drew further attention at the final whistle when Osimhen walked straight down the tunnel, opting not to join his teammates in post match celebrations.
Speaking during his post match press conference, Chelle declined to provide details on the incident but indicated that the matter would be dealt with internally.
“What happened on the pitch will stay in the group,” Chelle said.
“I don’t need to tell you what will happen, I keep that to me.”
The episode came on a night when Osimhen delivered a strong performance in front of goal. Lookman scored once and provided two assists, both converted by Osimhen, taking the striker’s tally to three goals at the tournament.
However, tensions appeared to rise after a promising attacking move broke down midway through the second half, with Osimhen visibly frustrated and shouting at Lookman over what appeared to be a delayed pass.

As Osimhen made his way off the pitch, sections of the crowd expressed their displeasure, booing the striker following his request to be substituted.
