Chelsea’s Pursuit Of Boniface Stalls As Striker Prefers German, Spanish Leagues

Chelsea’s pursuit of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has encountered a setback, as the player has shown a preference for playing in German and Spanish leagues.

According to TEAMTalk, the West London club is eyeing a major attacking signing in 2025, with Boniface, 23, emerging as a top target. The Nigerian forward was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s successful Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal campaign last season, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 appearances, despite injury setbacks.

Boniface has carried his fine form into this season, netting four goals and contributing one assist in his first six matches. Chelsea are reportedly considering a £70 million move for the former Union SG star, with some at Stamford Bridge believing he should be prioritized over Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, partly due to his lower wage demands.

However, in a recent interview with Sporty TV, Boniface’s comments have cast doubt on the likelihood of a Premier League move.

“I’m not saying if a top team come for me, I won’t go, but if you ask me the two countries I’d love to live and play in, it’s Germany and Spain.”

Chelsea are also exploring other options, including Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres. According to Transfer News Live, Chelsea scouts have been tracking Victor Boniface in recent weeks, joining a growing number of top European clubs eyeing Nigerian talents.

Boniface signed for Bayer Leverkusen last season in a €20m move from Royale Union SG. His stellar performances helped the German club achieve domestic success and reach the Europa League final, where they ultimately lost to Atalanta.
