The Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria has distanced itself from a viral video showing a controversial bishop performing a “tongue-to-tongue” anointing ceremony. The church described the act as “horrific” and condemned it as an unacceptable practice that goes against its doctrines.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the church clarified that the individuals involved are not affiliated with the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria and do not represent its beliefs. It expressed deep concern over the unauthorized use of its religious symbols and references to its revered founder, St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase.
“Ordinarily, we would not respond to such incidents, but it is necessary to set the record straight,” the statement read.
Following an internal investigation, the church identified the bishop in the video as Alfred Oluwasegun Okikiola Ogunnusi, who calls himself “His Eminence Baba Aladura LAHOJAH.” The ceremony reportedly took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, while the person being anointed, known as Benjamin (also called Ajigbo), runs a makeshift ‘church’ in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The church strongly condemned Ogunnusi’s attempt to justify the act using Genesis 48:10, stating that his interpretation was misleading and flawed. It reaffirmed its stance against idolatrous practices, emphasizing that such actions contradict its teachings.
It further clarified that not everyone wearing a white garment belongs to the C&S Church and urged the public not to assume affiliations based on appearance.
“We strongly reject idolatrous practices and denounce these satanic and unholy acts in their entirety,” the statement emphasized.
“As a church, we anoint our members only with olive oil and conduct baptisms through immersion in water—never through any other means.”
Additionally, the church disowned an individual in the video who was seen wearing a robe with the official C&S logo, stressing that he is neither a recognized member nor authorized to wear the emblem.
The church called on the public to disregard the video and its misleading portrayal of Christian practices, urging collective condemnation of the incident.
“These impostors are trying to exploit the name of St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase for personal gain, but invoking his name does not grant legitimacy or membership in our church,” the statement concluded.
