Onana Rejects Saudi Move, Commits To Manchester United.
Struggled in debut season but remains determined to succeed.
United faces squad overhaul as Ratcliffe evaluates inherited signings.
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has turned down offers from Saudi Arabian clubs, choosing to remain at Old Trafford despite a challenging debut season, according to the Daily Mail.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the 28-year-old shot-stopper has endured a tough start since his £47.2 million move to United, with a string of high-profile errors marking his first campaign. However, despite the team’s struggles—currently sitting 13th in the Premier League—Onana remains committed to improving his form and helping Erik ten Hag’s side recover.
Saudi Pro League clubs had expressed strong interest in signing Onana, eager to bolster their squads with high-profile European talent. However, the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s decision to stay signals his determination to prove himself at United.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently took charge of the club’s football operations, acknowledged Onana as one of several players inherited from previous management. Addressing the club’s recruitment history, Ratcliffe said:
“If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying [Rasmus] Hojlund, we’re buying [Jadon] Sancho. These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.”
Onana Rejects Saudi Move
Onana’s commitment to staying comes amid uncertainty over other big-name signings. United recently loaned out Antony, their most expensive recent acquisition, while Casemiro—one of the club’s highest earners—has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia but remains keen to stay.
As the summer transfer window approaches, United’s squad rebuild under Ratcliffe is expected to take shape, with decisions looming over several key players.
