Nwadigbo, captured in a viral video repeatedly slapping the toddler during a lesson on January 8, 2025, has been arraigned and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
She faces charges of indecent treatment of a child, awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education’s Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) visited the school on January 9, 2025.
Officials found the school partially shut down, with pupils asked to stay home until January 13, 2025. Head Teacher Mrs. B. Adeyeri, speaking on behalf of the proprietor, Mrs. Yomi Olutoye, cited public pressure and visits to the school as reasons for the temporary closure to protect other students.
Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Ministry, Mr. Kayode Sutton, condemned the teacher’s actions, stating, “By her action, Nwadigbo has contravened the Child Rights Act and the Lagos State Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection, which are punishable offenses under the law.”
