Chrisland Schools Denies Alleged Plan To Exhume Whitney Adeniran’s Body

  • Whitney slumped and died at the venue of her school’s inter-house sports event on February 9, 2023.

  • The 12-year-old’s autopsy showed that she died from asphyxia and electrocution.

  • The Lagos government recently kicked against the deceased’s exhumation after plans allegedly emerged to do so.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the management of Chrisland Schools has denied any plan to exhume the body of Whitney Adeniran.

Recall that Whitney, a pupil of Chrisland High School in Ikeja, died on February 9 during a sports event in Agege.

Blessing Adeniran, Whitney’s mother, accused Chrisland of negligence at the competition that led to her death.

Consequently, the Lagos government carried out an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The autopsy conducted shows the girl died from asphyxia and electrocution.

State officials, subsequently, raised an alarm that they learned of a dialogue seeking to exhume the body of the girl.

Lagos argued that conditions that would warrant this under the coroner system law don’t apply in Whitney’s case.

“It is not our intention to further traumatise the deceased’s family,” the government said in a statement condemning alleged plans to exhume Whitney’s body.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chrisland management appears to respond to the Lagos government, saying it has no such plan.

The school said it is making efforts to immortalise Whitney’s name in the school.

“We vehemently refute the claim making the rounds that Chrisland intends to exhume Whitney’s body,” the statement reads.

“We have no such plan and assure the public that we are also parents in mourning and will not do or subscribe to anything that paints such insensitive optics that prevents our dear daughter from resting.

“We assure you all that no such thing will happen. Plans are underway to immortalise Whitney’s name so she can remain indelible in our consciousness.”

On the autopsy, which revealed Whitney died from electrocution, the school expressed its remorse.

“The management of Chrisland School is aware of the developments around the autopsy report,” the Chrisland Schools management said.

“We are deeply saddened and sorry about Whitney’s death. We are remorseful and sorry to Whitney’s parents.

“We are sorry to our parents and the entire community that hosts our school. We are also very sorry to the nation at large. It was a huge loss to the School.
