- Coalition Calls On President Buhari to Terminate NIA DG’s Appointment- Replace With Competent Hands
EKOHOTBLOG report that the coalition of Arewa Youth Groups in Kaduna, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to terminate the appointment of Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) DG, Ahmed Rufa’i, and replace him with competent hands.
The coalition of Northern Youth Group is an amalgamation of over 40 youth groups in Northern Nigeria with a purpose of fostering unity, brotherhood, love among people of different cultures, religion and diversity of Northern extraction.
In a joint communique issued to pressmen by chairman of the communique drafting committee, Dr. Kabir Dan-Azumi, its Secretary Comrade I B Bala and
Mallam. Iliyasu Danladi of the
Coalition of Arewa Youth Groups, said however being the exclusive duty of the President to appoint NIA DG, he should have consulted the National Security Advicer for input and guidance before validating the appointment.
They noted that Sen. Isa Misau, a serving senator raised alarm that the reappointment Amb. Ahmed Rufai could lead to a breach of national security as the man was incompetent to continue serving in that sensitive position.
“A civil society group CONCERNED NIGERIAN also sued the appointment of the NIA DG due to Incompetence.
“From findings, Amb. Ahmed failed exams three different times to get promotion to director and was retired compulsory due to his inability to pass his promotional exams, but here we are giving him opportunity to serve over those who are much qualified.
“Information at our disposal pointed out that that Amb. Ahmed under performance lead to refusal of other sister agencies to collaborate with him, this have cost the nation lack of interagency relationships
to fight insecurity.
“Mr President is being passive as a sentimentalist due to this appointment, as most security agencies are been headed by Northerners, this would have been the opportunity to clear the image of Mr President by bringing in a southern into his security architecture.
“The appointment is causing internal crises in NIA and the agency is heading to failure and losing out in its mandate, the personnel are seriously calling president Buhari names that he is not using seniority and hierarchy in his appointment into key positions in the agency.
“in this light, we therefore pass a vote of no confidence on Amb. Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar, the DG NIA and call on him to voluntary resign and leave better hands to pilot the affairs of the agency as that will serve as act of patriotism from his part,” they said.
They group threatened to come out en masse to show greviances and demand the sack of Amb. Ahmed and as well write to foreign nations that they shouldn’t trust a man of his character.
They also appealed to the National Assembly, office of the National Security Adviser and all relevant authorities to save the NIA, for the purpose of national interest which supersedes personal interest.
“We wish to state categorically that no amount of treat or victimization will deter us from carrying on with our actions for is better to die a hero than to die a coward.
“We will be addressing a world press conference in Abuja, accompanied with a 1million man match for the sack of the DG NIA”,they vowed.
The group however commended the Federal Government for declaring bandits as terrorists and thanked security agencies for there relentless efforts to restore peace and protect
lives and properties in the country.
“We also wish to appreciate the Federal Government for continuing putting infrastructure in place for
the betterment and benefits of all citizens, most especially the railway as it stand as one of the major legacy of Buhari’s administration.
“We also thank all those who honored this call, most especially youth leaders from other regions of the country like the Afenifere Youths, Igbo Youths Parliament, Ijaw Youths among others,”.
