A woman identified as Alaba has asked an Ibadan court to end her marriage after finding out her husband is infertile.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, heard the case where Alaba accused her husband, Alade, of hiding key facts before their wedding.
She told the court that Alade never mentioned he already had a wife before they got married in 2020.
Alaba added that he also concealed his fertility problem for five years despite her constant hospital visits.
The marriage, according to her, was built on deception, which has caused her emotional distress and financial loss.
She recalled that shortly after their wedding, she discovered her husband had another wife.
Despite the shock, she said she accepted her fate and stayed committed to the union.
However, Alaba said Alade showed no concern that they had no children after five years together.
She narrated how she spent her money moving from one hospital to another in search of a solution.
Doctors repeatedly asked Alade to come for medical tests, but he always refused.
After mounting pressure, he reluctantly agreed to take a fertility test with her.
The result, she said, showed that Alade was sterile and could not father children.
Alaba stated that she was deeply hurt that her husband had kept this hidden from her all along.
She told the court she felt the five years spent in the marriage were wasted.
Alaba said she could no longer continue in the marriage and needed to move on with her life.
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case for judgement.
