The Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky had sought ₦200 million in damages, alleging that his fundamental rights were violated by the EFCC. However, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled on Thursday, November 28, 2024, that Bobrisky’s claims were unsubstantiated and lacked merit.
The applicant had sought several reliefs, including an order for a perpetual injunction to prevent the EFCC from harassing him, declaring him wanted, or arresting and detaining him. Additionally, Bobrisky requested ₦200 million in damages for the alleged harm caused by the Commission’s actions related to his arrest and subsequent trial.

Justice Owoeye stated that after reviewing the evidence provided, it was clear that Bobrisky had failed to present credible evidence to support his claims.
The judge concluded, “Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him.”
In his final ruling, the judge emphasized that the allegations of fundamental rights violations lacked merit and were not substantiated by the affidavit evidence. As a result, the suit was dismissed, and no damages were awarded against the EFCC.
Bobrisky had previously dragged both the EFCC and the National Assembly to court, but all the reliefs he sought were denied. His legal troubles began when the EFCC arrested him on April 4, 2024, for alleged currency abuse. His arrest led to his conviction on April 12, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was sentenced to six months in prison.
