The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to ten protesters accused of attempting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, imposing a N10 million bail on each defendant.

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled on their bail applications, requiring each of the accused to provide one surety, who must be a property owner residing in Abuja.

Despite objections from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Justice Nwite granted the bail request but prohibited the accused from participating in public rallies during their trial. Until they meet the bail conditions, they will remain in prison custody.

The protesters, accused of treason for allegedly calling on the military to overthrow the government during nationwide demonstrations between July 1 and August 4, face charges under sections 96, 410, and 413 of the Penal Code.

The IGP alleges that the accused attempted to break into the Abacha Army Barracks, incited violence, and damaged public properties, including a police station, a High Court complex, and National Communication Commission (NCC) facilities.
