Court Sacks All 44 NNPP Candidates 24 Hours Before Kano LG Polls
A new controversy has erupted over Saturday’s local government election in Kano State as a Federal High Court, on Friday, removed the 44 chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Justice Simon Amobede ruled to disqualify the NNPP candidates in response to a lawsuit filed by a party faction led by Dalhatu Shehu Usman.
The court directed this faction to submit its list of candidates to the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for validation.

The defendants in the case include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), KANSIEC, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS).
After reviewing the originating summons dated October 8, 2024, Justice Amobede prohibited INEC from releasing the voters register to KANSIEC and ordered acceptance of the candidate list submitted by Usman’s faction.
Justice Amobede declared: “The 1st defendant (INEC) is hereby restrained from releasing the voters register for the 2nd defendant (KANSIEC) to conduct the proposed election on 26th October 2024.
