COVID-19: NUC Orders Suspension Of Academic Activities In Universities
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed Vice-Chancellors of universities to put all academic activities on hold amid upsurge COVID-19 cases.
Ekohotblog reports that the directive was contained in circular signed by Chris Maiyaki, Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration).
Maiyaki ordered the universities to remain shut and await further instructions.
Other edifice such as classrooms, hostel accommodation are to remain closed while conferences and seminars are put on hold.
Miyaki disclosed that the directive was in line with the measures put in place by the federal government and approved by the president to battle the COVID-19 resurgence in the country.
“Vice-Chancellors are to please note that the directive is part of the measures approved by Mr. President to mitigate the second wave of Coronavirus infections in the country.
“The affected officers are expected to perform their duties from home while those on GL 13 and above should strictly adhere to the extant preventive measures”, he said.

Recall that the the federal government on December 22, directed civil servants on GL 12 and below to stay at home for five weeks.
The directive will come as a hammer blow for Nigerian students who were bracing up for resumption of academic activities after the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU), conditionally suspended its 9-month old industrial action only a few days ago.
