The Federal Government has flagged off the COVID-19 Rapid Response Register for the poor in urban and semi-urban areas of Lagos state
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Government has commenced registration for the second wave of Rapid Response Register (RRR), a programme designed to provide emergency assistance to urban and semi-urban dwellers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in all the States of Federation. Lagos state is also participating via the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB)..

The State Coordinator in the Ministry, Lagos State Operations Coordinating Unit (LASOCU), Mrs Oluwakemi Adedeji, who disclosed this in a statement obtained by EKO HOT BLOG, said that the programme was targeted at poor homes, low-income earners and artisans across 210 Wards in 19 selected Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.
The statement reads, “The Rapid Response Register is an emergency intervention by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, centred on residents of urban and semi-urban areas that are economically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The target group will include the urban poor and vulnerable population not yet supported through the existing National Social Safety Nets Project (NASSP) impacted by COVID-19.
“Also, those low-income earners involved in the informal sector that may have lost their income opportunities will be eligible for registration into the Rapid Response Register.”
“Those eligible are low-income earners involved in the informal sector, lower level private and public sector employees that lost their jobs because of the pandemic, urban poor, artisans and persons living with disabilities.
Adedeji, who advised those who lost their jobs or faced other economic challenges due to COVID-19 in Lagos State to enrol by dialling specific codes allocated to their residential areas on their phones and follow the instructions.
He said, “To get registered, dial 969 community code# as contained in the flyers being distributed. She added that Community codes are available with LASOCU Teams at Local Government Councils and with Community Development Association Executives near you.
At the end of successful registration, you will be given a unique number. Please, keep the number for future use, keep your sim card very well and avoid scammers. Do not send account details to unknown persons.
“Targeting and enrolment of affected households will be done through text messages that allow residents of selected wards and communities apply to be assisted by texting or calling a designated USSD code. Beneficiaries eligible for payment shall be validated by Enumerators who shall visit you to collect bank account details to receive cash support and other financial inclusion packages under the Federal Government’s COVID-19 assistance programme.”
Applications shall be received from Lagos State to the National Server between December 17 – 29, 2021.
