President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service. His original term was scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.
This decision, announced by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, is intended to allow Mr. Adeniyi to continue and finish ongoing reforms and important projects. These initiatives are part of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, EKO HOT BLOG reports.

This extension follows key projects Mr. Adeniyi is overseeing include modernizing the Nigeria Customs Service, fully putting into practice the National Single Window Project which simplifies trade processes, and ensuring Nigeria meets its commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu recognized Mr. Adeniyi’s leadership and expressed confidence that the additional year will strengthen the Customs Service in its main roles of making trade easier, generating revenue for the government, and securing the country’s borders.
Adeniyi, who was appointed in 2023, has already led several major changes aimed at making the Service more efficient, transparent, and compliant with international trade rules.
