Customs officials, led by Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, revealed their unique approach to the seized goods. Instead of confiscating them, the trucks were redirected to Nigerian markets, where they were sold to locals. This move aims to deter smuggling activities and ensure that Nigerians benefit from the intercepted items.

Ejibunu also highlighted concerns over a new smuggling tactic involving foreign parboiled rice concealed in petroleum jerry cans. Such practices not only violate the law but also pose health risks to consumers, as the grains may have absorbed harmful substances from fuel.

The Customs operation resulted in 93 seizures and the arrest of nine suspects, with goods valued at N751.1 million confiscated. Rice accounted for a significant portion of the seizures, totaling over 3,779 bags. Additionally, items such as firearms, drugs, rubber slippers, motorcycles, fuel, and used tires were intercepted.

Despite facing challenges from determined smugglers, the Customs Unit remains committed to its anti-smuggling efforts.
