Dangote Refinery vs NNPC: Update on Petrol Pump Price in Abuja Monday

The prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) ranged between N897 and N980 per litre at major filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as of Monday morning.

An EKO HOT BLOG correspondent visited several major filling stations, including those operated by Independent Petroleum Marketers and NNPCL, revealing that pump prices per litre ranged from N897 to N1,100.

At the Fuel Smart Filling Station in the Phase 5 Army Estate area of Kurudu, FCT, petrol was being sold at N1,100 per litre. Similarly, at Jenneb Petrol Station, also in the Kurudu area, petrol was dispensed at N1,050 per litre.

Long queues were observed at the NNPCL station in Phase 2 along the same expressway, with motorists indicating they planned to stay overnight in hopes of purchasing fuel at N992 per litre.

At an AP fuel station that was closed, an EKO HOT BLOG correspondent spoke to an attendant waiting for a tanker to arrive. The attendant, Benjamin Idah, noted, “We are yet to receive any information on PMS price adjustment. We still sell at N980 per litre.”

This update follows NNPCL’s announcement of September pricing across its retail outlets, after lifting petrol from Dangote Refinery on Sunday at N898.78 per litre.

Taking logistics and other costs into account, the state-owned company further stated that the lowest estimated retail price of petrol will be N950.22 per litre in Lagos, with the highest set at N1,019.22 per litre.

This means that, in the coming days, prices are expected to increase to between N950.22 and over N1,083 per litre, once the old stock is exhausted.

NNPCL also disclosed that over 70 trucks had been loaded as of Sunday from Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre. However, Dangote Group spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, disputed NNPCL’s claims regarding the price at which the company purchased petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
