EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kaff, best known for his role as keyboardist Viv Savage in the 1984 cult mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday.
His death was confirmed in a Facebook post by his bandmates from Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“Our brother David Kaffinetti peacefully passed away in his sleep yesterday. We are devastated by this event. RIP dear brother,” the tribute read.
Kaff gained widespread recognition for his comedic role in This Is Spinal Tap, a satirical film that became a classic for both music and film enthusiasts. Following the film’s success, he continued to perform as part of the fictional band Spinal Tap at live events, including a notable appearance on Saturday Night Live.
He eventually moved on to join other music groups, but his legacy as Viv Savage remained a defining moment in his career, celebrated by fans across generations.
David Kaff leaves behind a legacy of humour, music, and memorable performances that helped shape a unique intersection of comedy and rock culture.
