EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, shortly after Buhari was buried in Daura, Katsina State, Bagos expressed regret over what he described as a failure in monitoring and evaluating key officials during Buhari’s administration.
He stated that although Buhari came into office with a strong anti-corruption image and a reputation for integrity, many of the individuals he appointed to support his administration are now entangled in corruption investigations.
“Looking at the individual of the president, he was able to fetch out people whom he supposedly assumed would help him run the administration,” Bagos said. “But at the end of the day, some of these same people are now facing anti-corruption issues.”
Bagos argued that the perceived integrity of Buhari’s leadership was undermined by appointees who failed to uphold the standards he championed. He noted that initiatives like the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which were designed to improve transparency, were not enough to curb the systemic issues.
“It shows that the trust he bestowed on them was betrayed,” he said. “Today, the issue of corruption and transparency in Nigeria has worsened, despite the introduction of the TSA.”

The ex-lawmaker concluded by noting that Buhari’s major weakness was the lack of effective supervision and evaluation of those he trusted with power. “Monitoring and evaluation of his appointees was a very big challenge for him,” he added.
