The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) loyal to Nafiu Bala has kicked against the appointment of former Senate President, David Mark, as head of the party’s new interim leadership, insisting he is not a recognised member of the party.
A statement retrieved by Eko Hot Blog issued on Friday, read that Aminu Alhassan, who serves as Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Bala, described the emergence of a new national working committee (NWC) under Mark as a clear breach of the party’s constitution.

The leadership tussle follows recent moves by prominent opposition figures to adopt the ADC as a political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those involved in the coalition are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; ex-PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai; Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi; ex-Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola; former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-APC chieftain, Bolaji Abdullahi.

The former national chairman of the ADC, Ralph Nwosu, had on July 2 announced the resignation of the existing NWC and endorsed an interim structure led by Mark. This new team has since written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking official recognition.
However, Alhassan faulted the process, stressing that party leadership must emerge through legitimate means as stated in the ADC’s constitution.
“Chief Ralph Nwosu’s resignation did not give room for an all-comers affair. The constitution is very clear only legitimate, card-carrying members can hold leadership positions,” the statement said.
He further stressed that no individual should be allowed to assume leadership without fulfilling membership requirements and following due democratic processes.
“There is no section in INEC guidelines or our party’s constitution that allows such imposition. It is important to respect internal structures and allow for proper dialogue within the party,” he added.
