702 members from LP, APGA, PRP, and PDP in Makera Constituency defected to APC to support the party in the upcoming local government elections.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that no fewer than 702 members from the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Makera Constituency, located in Kaduna-South Local Government Area, officially switched allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
These new APC members pledged their support to help the party succeed in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 19 in the state.
The group of defectors includes a former candidate for the State House of Assembly representing Makera Constituency, along with several women and youth leaders from Kaduna-South Local Government.
They were welcomed into the APC fold by Ibrahim Soso, the Local Government Party Chairman, and Senator Lawal Aliyu, a former senator for Kaduna-North, during a gathering at Monday Market in Kakuri Gwari.
In his address, Chairman Ibrahim Soso reassured the new members that they would be given equal opportunities within the APC regardless of their recent membership status.
He encouraged them to actively support and vote for all APC candidates in the upcoming October 19 Council elections, expressing confidence that “Kaduna-South will back our party, the APC, and we’re sure that the main opposition, PDP, is no longer a threat here.”
Representing the defectors, Ayok Danboyi, a former Makera State House of Assembly candidate, and Yunana Bala, a PDP chieftain, attributed their defection to the leadership approach of Executive Vice Chairman Nehemiah Baba-Karik and Governor Uba Sani, who have been focusing on unity and progress across the state.
Nehemiah Baba-Karik, the Executive Vice Chairman of Kaduna-South Local Government Area, praised the decision of the defectors, labeling it as wise.
He assured them that their involvement in the party would be significant and that they would be included in future developments. He emphasized that Governor Sani has shown strong leadership and dedication to fostering good governance in the region.
