He filed complaints with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Lagos State Police Command.

Recent Arrest

On December 3, 2024, human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi was reportedly arrested by the Nigerian Police Force, with the news being shared by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, on his X handle.

Sowore condemned the arrest, calling for Farotimi’s immediate release and criticizing the use of the police to settle personal disputes. He urged the Nigerian police to refrain from using their authority for personal grievances, stating that citizens would no longer tolerate such actions.

However, a spokesperson for the Zone 2 Command, SP Ummar Ayuba, denied the arrest, claiming that Farotimi was not in their custody. In contrast, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Adeniran Akinwale, confirmed that Farotimi had been arrested in connection with allegations of defamation, cyberstalking, and other offenses, with investigations ongoing to determine his level of culpability.
