Reacting swiftly to the development, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered an immediate investigation. The command confirmed on Sunday that the officers involved have been identified and are now in custody.
According to police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police who led the team has also been issued a query. The detained officers are expected to face an orderly room trial.
Edafe stressed that such behaviour goes against the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force and that disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Police Act. He reiterated the CP’s position that human rights violations will not be tolerated under his watch.

Members of the public have been urged to remain calm while the disciplinary process unfolds. The police command assured that justice would be served and that the outcome would act as a deterrent to others.
This latest incident adds to ongoing scrutiny of police conduct across the country, reinforcing calls for transparency, accountability, and respect for citizens’ rights.
