Deputy Vice-Chancellor Of Abia State University Abducted By Gunmen

Eko Hot Blog reports the Abia State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Abia State University Uturu.

The incident occurred while Prof. Emezue was purchasing fuel at a filling station in Umuopara.

According to the statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the abduction took place on January 26, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m.

The armed assailants, who confiscated the victim’s wife’s ATM card, forcibly took the Deputy Vice-Chancellor into a Lexus SUV and fled the scene.

“During the incident, the hoodlums confiscated his wife’s ATM card, dragged the Deputy Vice-Chancellor into a Lexus SUV, and drove away with the victim.”

The Abia State Police Command is actively deploying resources, including intelligence and technical aid, to unravel the crime and safely rescue Prof. Emezue from his captors.

The statement urges residents to remain calm, continue their legitimate activities, and maintain vigilance while being security conscious.

The police also seek the cooperation of the public in providing any useful information that could assist in resolving the situation and enhancing security in the state.

As of the time of reporting, there have been no contacts from the abductors regarding any ransom. The university community and the public anxiously await updates on the situation.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by individuals in the region and highlights the need for collective efforts to address and mitigate such occurrences.
