The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned motorists to desist from causing traffic congestion while queuing for fuel at various filling stations in the state.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.

The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.

Bakare-Oki said that additional officers had been deployed to monitor traffic around fuel stations across the state.

“This increased deployment is necessary due to reports of long queues at filling stations caused by motorists who park indiscriminately, blocking roads as they wait to purchase fuel,” he said.

Bakare-Oki expressed dissatisfaction with the chaotic behaviour of some drivers, who queue carelessly and disrupt the smooth flow of traffic around petrol stations.

“The current fuel scarcity is not an excuse to obstruct and disrupt traffic in Lagos.

“We want our roads to be free-flowing; fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos,” he said.

He reiterated that effective traffic management was essential for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki also called for full cooperation from the public to ensure that the ‘T.H.E.M.E. +’ agenda of the current administration results in positive socio-economic development and enhanced security of lives and property.

He further urged the public, particularly motorists, to make use of LASTMA’s newly inaugurated toll-free call center at 080000527862 for complaints, comments and commendations.
