For many years, Nigeria’s education system has suffered from poor record-keeping. Important data about schools, teachers, and students were scattered across different states and offices, making it hard to make good decisions, allocate resources, or track progress.
In his address, Dr. Alausa made it clear that this had to stop, saying, “Today, we say this must change.”

According to him, NEDI was created to fix this. It will provide a single, central database to store important information about education at all levels, from primary schools to universities.
The system will use the National Identity Number (NIN) to track each student’s progress throughout their education. This will make it possible to monitor every child and ensure no one is left behind.
Dr. Alausa said NEDI will give a clear picture of the education system. The database will include information about schools, student performance, teachers, exams, and school infrastructure like classrooms, libraries, and laboratories. It will also introduce a system to grade schools based on their performance. This will encourage accountability and help improve funding and resource allocation.
Dr. Alausa explained further that NEDI will help the government make better decisions. With accurate data, it will be easier to identify problems, monitor progress, and work with development partners to improve education. He assured everyone that the government is fully committed to the success of this initiative.
To make NEDI a reality, Dr. Alausa launched the Implementation Committee. The committee will design the database, organize the data, protect its security, and work with stakeholders across the country to ensure the program succeeds. He encouraged the committee members to work hard, saying, “The future of Nigeria’s education depends on you.”
Dr. Alausa promised that the government would provide all the support needed to make NEDI successful. He described the initiative as a legacy of excellence that will create a better education system for all Nigerian children.
