Driver Burnt to Death in Lekki-Epe Expressway Collision

A tragic accident claimed the life of a driver on Thursday, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos, near Okegun/Seaport, inward Epe.
The incident, which occurred mid-day, involved a Toyota Highlander SUV (GGE 432 JC) and a Sino tipper truck.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Toyota Highlander, traveling toward Ajah, lost control, veered across the expressway, and collided with the Sino tipper truck heading toward Epe.
The collision caused the Toyota Highlander to burst into flames, trapping the driver inside.
Despite swift intervention from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Fire Services (Epe Division), the driver succumbed to the blaze.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the details in a statement.
“Our officers, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire Services, worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and recover the remains of the victim,” he said.
The deceased’s family, who arrived from Epe shortly after the incident, were handed the body.
Security operatives from the Epe Police Division were present at the scene, providing support during the rescue and recovery efforts.
Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, Bakare-Oki said, “We pray for divine comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time.”
He emphasized LASTMA’s commitment to promoting road safety and reducing preventable accidents through adherence to traffic regulations and regular vehicle maintenance.

Motorists are urged to prioritize caution and ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition to prevent such tragedies.
The accident caused temporary traffic disruptions along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, but normal flow was restored shortly after recovery operations concluded.
