Reflecting on past hardships during General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s administration, Jonathan noted that Nigerians endured severe difficulties but eventually recovered, attributing this resilience to divine intervention.
Jonathan made these remarks at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa on Friday while opening the “2024 Annual Law Week” of the Yenagoa Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). The event’s theme was “The Legal Profession in a Time of Socio-Economic Uncertainty,” which he described as highly relevant given the current economic situation.
Represented by the Paramount Ruler of Abureni Clan, HRM Collins Daniel, Jonathan said, “Between 1984-1987, Nigeria faced economic challenges under General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s administration, leading to the introduction of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP). The country experienced a scarcity of essential commodities, and citizens suffered severe hardship. However, with God’s presence, the country bounced back.
