The visit, which occurred shortly after Okpebholo’s victory in the recent Edo governorship election, was to express gratitude for the support he received during his campaign.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Sanwo-Olu warmly welcomed Okpebholo and assured him of Lagos State’s full support in providing developmental strategies and resources to ensure a successful tenure as Edo’s governor.
This was disclosed in a statement by Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
Sanwo-Olu assured Okpebholo that Lagos State would offer guidance and share its developmental strategies to help him succeed as governor.
He said: “We are thrilled that you’ve chosen Lagos as your first stop to seek blessings and acknowledge the modest support we provided.
“On behalf of the people and government of Lagos State, we congratulate you. Your victory is a win for all Edo people, and everyone should work together to advance the state.
“I assure you, you’re not the first to benefit from Lagos’ developmental blueprint. We’ll make all relevant agencies and ideas that have contributed to Lagos’ progress available to you. Lagos will stand by you and offer the support you need to excel as Governor.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also urged the people of Edo State to unite behind Senator Okpebholo, calling on all stakeholders to support the governor-elect in his mission to improve the state.
He added, “Your former opponents should join you in developing Edo. The election is over, and now it’s time for everyone who genuinely wants to serve Edo to contribute their support. Only through unity can Edo prosper.
“You have the heart to transform the state, touch lives, and make life meaningful for your people, and we trust that you will fulfill that potential.”
In response, Senator Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support during the Edo governorship election. Accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Edo Deputy Governor Hon. Phillip Shuaibu, and other APC leaders, Okpebholo thanked the Lagos governor and requested continued support after assuming office.
He said: “I’m here not just to thank you but also to seek your guidance. Don’t leave me to walk this journey alone. We are brothers and both part of APC.
“We seek your continued support and prayers, which will help us achieve significant progress for the people of Edo.
“To those outside, I extend a hand of fellowship. There must always be a winner, and I encourage everyone with ideas to join us in developing Edo State. We’re set to bring about a new era of transformation. On November 12, we’ll take over from where Obaseki left off, and I wish him well for the remainder of his term.”
