Edo Guber: Police Nab 6, Recover 4 Weapons, 58 Voters Cards

The Nigerian Police has said six persons were arrested for various electoral offences during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the election, Frank Mba, disclosed this in Benin, on Tuesday, at a news conference.

“We have made a total of six arrests, and we expect this number to increase as we expand our investigations.

“We recovered four weapons of different mixes, life ammunition, 58 voters cards in unlawful possession, stolen BIVAS machines, and some cash,”  Mba stated.

He described the governorship poll as peaceful and a successful exercise with the Nigerian Police Force playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order.

Mba commended the people of Edo for their exemplary conduct during the elections.

“The good people of Edo have conducted themselves commendably throughout the election process.

“We thank them for trusting and working with us,” the DIG said.

Mba also praised the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force, members of the Armed Forces, and other law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and neutrality during the polls.

“Our personnel conducted themselves excellently well, maintaining political neutrality and complying with relevant laws and guidelines,” he said.

To ensure post-election safety, Mba said  that the police activated strategies for high-visibility policing, confidence-building patrols, and protection of critical assets.

“We urge citizens to continue conducting themselves within the law, and we will ensure their safety,” he assured.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the off-cycle governorship election in Edo saw Sen. Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerge victorious, securing 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, with 247,274 and Olumide Akpata of Labour party, 22,763.
