The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has reiterated the district’s commitment to academic excellence at the 19th Annual Merit Award Ceremony, held at Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Adekanye commended the awardees for their relentless efforts in shaping the future of students and elevating academic standards.
She emphasized that their dedication has not only improved student performance but also contributed significantly to the overall growth of Lagos State’s education sector.
“Education is the bedrock of any progressive society. Today, we celebrate those who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their duties.
Your passion and resilience inspire your students, colleagues, and the entire educational community,” she stated.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary also acknowledged the Lagos State Government’s continued investment in education through the provision of digital learning tools, professional development programs, and infrastructure upgrades.
She expressed her gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, for their support in advancing educational reforms.
“With the introduction of digital teaching tools, teacher training programs, and infrastructural improvements, we are positioning our schools to compete on both national and international platforms,” she affirmed.
Mrs. Adekanye further appreciated the efforts of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) under the leadership of its Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, for ensuring the recruitment and continuous training of qualified teachers.

During the ceremony, several educators were honored for their exceptional service. The award for Best Principal (Senior Category) went to Mrs. Akinwunmi Olukemi of Ajegunle Senior High School, Ketu, while Mrs. Babalola Theresa of Igbobi Junior High School, Somolu, won the Best Principal (Junior Category).
The Best Teacher awards in the Senior and Junior Categories were presented to Mr. Lawal Peter and Mrs. Ademosu Kehinde, respectively, among other distinguished recipients.
In addition to individual recognitions, Special Recognition Awards were given to retired Tutor-Generals/Permanent Secretaries, the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Zonal NUT, and ANCOPPS Chairmen from the district’s three zones.
Mrs. Adekanye urged educators to remain steadfast in their commitment to academic excellence, assuring them of the government’s continuous support.
“Your contributions are invaluable, and together, we will continue to build an education system that empowers our students for a brighter future,” she concluded.
