EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the EFCC, Bello was arrested on Tuesday at approximately 12:54 pm in Abuja. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stating that Bello is currently in detention at the commission’s Abuja office.

Reports initially suggested that Bello had voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters earlier on Tuesday, arriving in a black Hilux vehicle and accompanied by his legal team. However, Oyewale clarified that the former governor, who had previously been declared wanted, did not surrender but was apprehended by EFCC operatives.

Bello is accused of involvement in a multibillion-naira fraud during his tenure as governor. Investigators are currently questioning him ahead of his arraignment.

EFCC Arraign Yahaya Bello Court

A senior EFCC official confirmed to SaharaReporters that Bello’s trial would commence after the necessary legal processes are completed. “Yahaya Bello will be ferried to court tomorrow (Wednesday) to commence trial,” the source stated.

The case against Bello highlights the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to address allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement among public officials. The trial is expected to draw significant attention as details of the alleged fraud are revealed in court.
