Olaniyi, an Agri-Business Consultant and Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) on Education Research and Youth Affairs to Wale Raji, member of House of Representatives, Epe Federal Constituency, was installed as the 5th President of the chapter last Saturday, November 19, 2022.
The colourful event held at the La Casa Hotel, a serene haven of hospitality situated in the heart of Poka kingdom, Eredo LCDA, Epe.
During his acceptance speech, the new president thanked individuals and organisations present for their support towards the success of the event.
In a passionate appeal, he urged the guests at the gathering to consider joining the club.
Olaniyi stressed that the club has a keen interest in seven areas of focus which include peace and conflict prevention and resolution; disease prevention and treatment; maternal and child health; and clean water and sanitation. Others are economic and community development; basic education and literacy; and the environment.
The new club president, who emphasised the need for more members, described the membership strength as a determining factor of success for the club.
Rotarian Olaniyi also disclosed to the gathering that the training and support of skilled artisans in the community were dear to his heart.
“With the influx of new companies in and around Epe, we are envisaging a skills gap which may have a negative effect on productivity and high unemployment rate. We hope to work with the Lagos State Technical College Odomola to train and certify some youths before the end of this Rotary year,” he said.
According to the club president, his leadership will focus on improving upon the public image of the club through several media projects.
He added that the sustainability of the monthly projects in the seven areas of focus would be implemented to impact the community with the resources available.
Earlier, the outgoing president, Rotarian Oludele Olusesi, attested to the leadership acumen of the new president and therefore admonished him to use his political and social goodwill to boost the club’s finances to complete its star project despite the country’s economic realities.
Eko Hot Blog reports that several guests donated generously to the club in funding its projects for 2022/2023.
Notable among the donors are Rep. Raji, Barrister Sesan Ogundeko, and Mr Niyi Adekoya.
While the lawmaker’s representative pledged the sum of N500,000, the leadership of the Emerald Blazers opted to support the projects with ten bags of cement and Barrister Ogundeko, and other donors promised their full support.
The event also featured a lecture delivered by the Guest Lecturer, Duke Olabode Gabardeen, a former Member of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission and DG, Eternal Care Foundation, as well as the induction of board of directors and chairman of committee, induction of new members, and auction sales.
It attracted prominent personalities such Rep. Raji, represented by Bashir Hassan; HRM Oba Kolawole Aliru, Oba of Poka (Royal father of the day) represented by High Chief Waheed Ogunkoya; High Chief Charles Keshinro (Chairman of the day), the Odofin of Ilara Kingdom; High Chief Kadri Odedeogboro, the Balogun of Epe Kingdom, and Mr Segun Osinaike, Permanent Secretary, Education District IV.
Others are Barrister Sesan Ogundeko, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties; Hon Muyiwa Okesanya, former Eredo LCDA Sole Administrator; Mr Niyi Adekoya, CEO Downtown Supermarket; Chief W Taiwo, former Eredo LCDA Vice Chairman and Engr. Temitope Odeyemi, Eredo LCDA Supervisor for Works.
Besides Eko Hot Blog, prominent organisations and personalities clinched various awards of recognition at the investiture ceremony.
They include Oba Dr Babatunde Ogunlaja FMBE, the Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija kingdom (Development Advocacy); Barrister Sesan Ogundeko, PS, Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties (Job Creation); and Rotarian Olabode Gabardeen, DG Eternal Care Foundation (Human Capacity Development).
