“I am delighted to congratulate and welcome you home. Enugu State has made significant contributions to this nation’s history, and you should take pride in your heritage. We are equally proud to have you as a daughter of Enugu State,” Mbah said.
He further remarked, “Your story is truly inspiring. Despite attempts to undermine you, you showed that you are a true daughter of Enugu State, overcoming challenges with the grit and resilience our people are known for. You have the power to influence and inspire our youth, particularly girls, by sharing your experiences.”
Governor Mbah also highlighted his administration’s commitment to education, with 33% of the state budget allocated to this sector, aimed at empowering young people to reach their full potential. He assured Adetsina of the state’s unwavering support as she prepares to represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe competition in Mexico.
“We are committed to investing in our youth, which is why we allocate 33% of our budget to education. We believe that the true wealth of any nation or state lies in the quality of its human resources. As you continue in this competition, you will carry our flag, and you can count on our full support,” he affirmed.
In her response, Miss Adetsina expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people and government of Enugu and Nigeria for their warm reception and encouragement. She praised Governor Mbah’s dedication to education and pledged to support the state in mentoring and inspiring young people.
“It’s been a wonderful experience returning to Nigeria. I feel loved and accepted. I commend you, Governor, for your commitment to education, which is crucial for the future of the people,” she stated.
Reflecting on her journey, Adetsina shared how she had initially competed in Miss South Africa but withdrew following backlash due to her Nigerian heritage. She later received an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 through Silverbird, leading to her victory.
“They said I wasn’t South African enough because my name is Chidimma. In the final week of the competition, I withdrew for my safety and my family’s. Afterward, I received an invitation from Silverbird to compete for Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and I was crowned.”
She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to return home and reclaim her heritage, noting, “Nigeria embraced me when I was at my lowest, and I am truly thankful. My story is powerful not just in Nigeria, but globally. Many young people can relate to my journey and learn from it.”
