Epe Celebrates 2024 World Teachers’ Day with Awards and Appreciation
Ekohotblog reports that the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Epe Branch, led by Comrade Sanni Shakiru Olatunji, celebrated the 2024 World Teachers’ Day at the NUT Cooperative Hall in Epe on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
The event gathered teachers, government officials, and education supporters to honor the hard work and dedication of teachers in the community.
In his speech, Comrade Sanni commended the teachers for their commitment to educating young minds and shaping the future of the nation.

He emphasized the need for better support, improved salaries, and enhanced working conditions for teachers.
“This year’s theme, ‘Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,’ calls for teachers to be more involved in decision-making within the education sector,” Comrade Sanni said.
He stated the importance of supporting teachers’ professional development to meet the evolving demands of the profession.
During the event, the NUT Epe Branch honored several retired teachers for their years of service.
Comrade Sanni expressed gratitude for their contributions to building strong school communities and presented them with certificates of commendation and gifts, wishing them a joyful retirement.
Among those recognized were Ms. Omole Alabake and Mr. Laguda, both of whom served the Lagos State Government for 35 years. Comrade Sanni remarked that their influence would continue to inspire future generations.
Awards were also presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to education and supported teachers’ welfare. The awardees included:
1. Dr. Oyetola Idowu Olufunke – Tutor General and Permanent Secretary (TGPS) of Education District III, represented by Chief Ans Ade.
2. Hon. Wale Raji – Member of the House of Representatives for Epe Federal Constituency, represented by Mr. Olusanya Ganiu.
3. Alhaja Muinat Ayoola Adebanjo – Principal of Lagos State Senior Model College, Agbowa.
4. Comrade Sunday Isaika Obidina – Chairman of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Epe Branch.
5. Alhaja Muyibat Iyabo Bisiriyu – Head Teacher of A.U.D. Odo-Egiri Primary School.
6. Mr. Christopher Olusesan Kajero – Head of Finance and Accounts, Epe Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).
7. Mr. James Ademola Aderounmu – Secretary of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Epe Branch.
8. Mr. Rafiu Olatunde Bakare – Head Teacher of R.C.M Primary School, Ijih.
9. Mrs. Temitope Elizabeth Oludipe – Head Teacher of L.G Central Primary School, Epe.
Comrade Sanni praised their hard work and passion for education, stating that the awards were well-deserved.
He encouraged the recipients to continue striving for excellence and to serve as role models for others.
Reflecting on his time as the NUT Epe Branch Chairman, Comrade Sanni noted that this was the fourth World Teachers’ Day celebrated under his leadership.
He thanked the teachers for their support and cooperation throughout his three years in office and assured them of a smooth transition as his tenure comes to an end.
He encouraged everyone to continue working together to achieve even greater success.
