Epe Club President Rasheed Shabi Wins Lagos Mainland II State Assembly Seat By Landslide

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the President of Epe Club, Rasheed Adebola Shabi, as the winner of the Lagos Mainland II State Constituency election.
Shabi, a first-time candidate for the Lagos assembly seat, contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The returning officer for the election declared the former general manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) the winner of the election.
According to INEC, the APC candidate polled 9,694 votes to beat his nearest rival, Shodimu Olufemi George of Labour Party (LP), who received 5,034 votes.
Akintunde Babawunmi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who pulled 1,510 votes, and other candidates finished well behind Shabi.
The electoral commission, therefore, declared the APC candidate the winner of the state constituency poll after he had met the legal requirements.
“That Abdulrasheed Adebola of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the returning officer said.

Shabi’s election to represent Lagos Mainland II State Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly marks another major step in his political career.
He ventured into politics in 2003 and has since taken up elective and appointive positions.
The lawmaker-elect was elected the Executive Chairman, Yaba Local Development Area, between May 2004 and May, 2007.
Furthermore, he served as the Executive Secretary of the Yaba Local Government, between 2007 and 2008.
Years later, Shabi was appointed the LASEPA general manager, a position he used to successfully implement various policies that helped the environment.
He attended Federal Government College Kano, Kano state for his secondary education between September, 1973 and June, 1978.
Afterward, the Lagos assembly member-elect was admitted to the University of Timisoara, Romania, in 1979/1980 academic session and graduated with a Master of Science degree (M.sc) in Chemical Engineering in 1984/85 academic session.
He worked with chemical and Allied Product Limited Apapa and Ikeja factories respectively for his youth service scheme, between September 8,1986 and September 7,1987.
Shabi sojourned Into the United States (US) for greater opportunities soon after completing his compulsory national youth service.
While in the US, he developed special interest in computers/Information Technology after working with different information systems management companies, namely; CompuServe USA and Mas Computers, both at Staten Island, New York.
Later, he returned to serve his state and country in different capacities.
Meanwhile, Shabi has congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who are coasting to victory in their reelection bids.
Although INEC is yet to officially declare the winner of the Lagos governorship election, the APC has won 18 of 20 local government areas in the state, putting the party in pole position for reelection.
